What is the best way to market myself directly to lawyers as an expert witness?
Filed in Injury lawyers on Aug.31, 2010
I am listed on an expert witness database but a recent direct mailshot to personal injury lawyers resulted in no responses at all. What is going wrong? What else can I do?
Your best option would be send a covering letter accompanied by a CV to a number of law firms.
Lawyers/Solicitors don’t always have the time to search websites, so the most direct approach is to market yourself as described above.

You don’t say what you’re an expert in. Who recognizes you as an expert? Write some articles for your local newspaper in your field, just submit them freelance, you may not get paid, but it will get your name out there, give you some credibility. Don’t send a letter to these guys, make an appointment and go talk to the one of the top lawyers you’d like to get hired by, give them your best sell yourself speech. Let them know you’re available, your qualifications, and that you’re trying to get yourself established in the area. Everyone was new in the field once, offer your services to the local legal aid society, might get your name associated with a few cases and you’ll get a start. Good luck.

I have never heard of an expert witness database but the following info may help. I was in traffic court once for a ticket and an attorney approached me and said I represent clients going before the judge. It was a nominal fee of $100 and it worked out. I am sure he maybe had 20 clients like me that day. You probably could cruise the courts for similar parts that deal with your area and meet potential clients.

One word. Networking. you need to get in with the lawers that you want to recomend you. Try attending local business events that you know lawers will also attend.
